For our guests, we have created an itinerary that offers the perfect balance between local traditions and modern gastronomy.
Day 1: The Soul of Llíber & Jalón (Local & Authentic)
Start your journey in your own backyard. If you arrive on a Saturday, the Mercat de la Terra in Jalón an absolute must. Here you won't find mass production, but small farmers selling their own olive oil, cheeses and organic vegetables. It is the ideal place to soak up the atmosphere of the valley.
For lunch, we recommend Riu Rau de Salvador to, where you will enjoy an authentic, local menu on the terrace. In the afternoon, a visit to Pepe Mendoza Casa Agrícola in Llíber essential. Pepe is a visionary who makes wines that reflect the raw, honest character of the valley. End the day at Casa Aleluya in Jalón, where the tapas are honest and the atmosphere on Thursday nights (with live music) is unsurpassed.
Day 2: Dénia - UNESCO City of Gastronomy (Coastal & Luxury)
Dénia is just a 20-minute drive away and has been declared a creative city of gastronomy by UNESCO. This is the birthplace of the Gamba Roja (red shrimp), a delicacy praised by top chefs worldwide. Visit Els Magazinos, a beautifully restored old factory that now serves as a culinary market. With more than 20 stalls, you can sample everything from fresh oysters to the best local rice dishes here.
Day 3: Alicante - The City of Markets and the ‘Almuerzo’
Alicante is a city that lives for food. The Mercado Central is an architectural masterpiece and a cathedral of fresh produce. Act like the locals and enjoy a Almuerzo - a hearty snack - at one of the bars in the middle of the market. Then stroll through the picturesque Santa Cruz district and settle down at Well Manolín. Here you will eat at the bar the best tapas in town, prepared with ingredients bought at the market the same morning.
Day 4: Into the mountains - Parcent & Alcalalí (Views & Wildlife)
Today we trek deeper into the mountains. The drive to the top of the Coll de Rates at Parcent offers one of the Costa Blanca's most beautiful views. The restaurant at the summit serves honest, robust dishes to match the mountainous landscape. On the way back, a stop at El Paraíso in Parcent highly recommended for an authentic, local experience in a rustic setting.
Day 5: Valencia - The Cradle of Paella
A day trip to Valencia (about 1 hour away) should not be missed during your culinary holiday in the Jalón Valley. For the most authentic experience, head to the district of El Palmar, located on Lake Albufera. Here, the rice fields are literally next to your table. Order a real Paella Valenciana (with rabbit, beans and sometimes snails) and taste why this dish has become world-famous.
